What is systems intelligence?
As Sovereo Intelligence Research uses the term, systems intelligence traces how decisions by governments, firms and institutions move through mechanisms to change your options. Sovereo applies it across geopolitics, culture, technopolitics, astropolitics, rare earths and minerals.
Sovereo Intelligence Research is a reader-funded publisher based in Bogotá. Systems intelligence is its core method. Each analysis names a decision, traces the mechanism and ends with what changes for a household.
The mechanisms are concrete: bargaining power, ownership, dependencies, incentives, agreements and who bears the costs. The test question is what a world event means for your income, costs, health, lifestyle and legacy.
The term also has an older academic meaning. Raimo P. Hämäläinen and Esa Saarinen of Helsinki University of Technology, now part of Aalto University, published a book on it in 2004.
They defined systems intelligence as intelligent behavior in the context of complex systems involving interaction and feedback. Their focus, in the book's subtitle, is human action and organizational life.
Sovereo's use is applied and outward facing. It maps how distant systems, such as trade rules or mineral supply chains, reach a reader's own choices.
Both uses draw on systems thinking. Donella Meadows described systems as stocks and flows shaped by feedback loops. She listed leverage points such as rules, information flows, incentives and the goals of a system.
A worked example shows the method. In April 2025, China tightened export controls on seven rare earths, including dysprosium and terbium, according to the US Geological Survey.
The International Energy Agency reported that export volumes fell sharply in April and May. Many carmakers in the US, Europe and elsewhere struggled to obtain permanent magnets. Some cut output or temporarily shut factories.
Even after trade recovered, rare earth prices in Europe reached up to six times those in China, the IEA said. China makes 94 percent of sintered permanent magnets, so buyers had few quick alternatives.
The household reading follows the chain: one export rule, then magnet supply, then factory output and costs for cars and devices made outside China. Each link is something a reader can watch.
The method depends on evidence discipline. Sovereo's published research standard requires corroboration of important claims and a test against the strongest contrary case. It labels confidence as high, medium or low.
The goal is better decisions, not predictions for their own sake. It is educational research, not financial advice.
